Bosnia and Herzegovina Faces USMNT at World Cup
Bosnia and Herzegovina will face the USMNT in the last 32 of the World Cup after beating Qatar 3-1 in Seattle. Bosnia and Herzegovina drew their opening game with Canada 1-1 before responding to losing heavily to Switzerland in round two by beating Qatar and has now claimed a best third-place spot.
Who are Bosnia's star players?
Edin Dzeko, Bosnia's captain and star player, was only eight years old when his local football pitch in Sarajevo, Bosnia's capital, was struck by a missile attack which killed several children. Dzeko, who later turned down citizenship approaches from Czech Republic and Germany, lived through a war which brought independence.
Dzeko, who currently plays for Schalke in Germany, is Bosnia's key player and has scored an international goal in 20 successive years. His teammates have been influenced in other ways by the traumas of the 1990s conflict, which led to mass emigration and a significant diaspora, numbering in the millions.

Bosnia's unofficial fan anthem for this tournament 'I am from Bosnia, take me to America' is a rewriting of the Bosnian band Dubioza Kolektiv's 'USA' song. It was originally framed on the American Dream and disillusionment with life at home, only for the protagonist to recognize the challenges of living as an immigrant abroad. The catchy, high-tempo tune has now been commandeered by Bosnia's football fans as a joyous chant to celebrate its football heroes.
